By Sun Yuwei The US embassy in China announced Friday that the US government has provided $50,000 to China for emergency aid supplies in flood-hit areas. US Ambassador to China Jon Huntsman said in a statement that the American people were saddened by the floods in southern China that have killed more than 200 people. He expressed his sympathy to the 30 million people and their families that reside in Zhejian, Fujian, Jiangxi, Hubei, Hunan, Sichuan, Chongqing, Guangxi and Guangdong. The ambassador also saluted the unflagging efforts of the Chinese emergency response personnel who have been working tirelessly to evacuate more than 1.3 million people, distributing relief supplies and reinforcing embankments. The donation was in response to an appeal made by the Red Cross of China on June 23, calling for assistance in coping with destructive floods in southern and central China. |
