The world's top 500 brands in 2009 were published in Tokyo Tuesday and 88 Chinese brands including China Petroleum and Chemical Corp (Sinopec), China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC) and Haier Group were on the list. The appraisal was conducted jointly by World Brand Organization (WBO), US-China Economic Trade & Investment General Chamber of Commerce and the US World Union of VIP Enterprises. Among the 88 brands, 79 are from the Chinese mainland, three are from Hong Kong and six are from Taiwan. All of these 88 brands' annual revenue exceeds $10 billion. Chow Kong Shan Kwan, president of World Famous Brand Assembly (WFBA) and chairman of US-China Economic Trade & Investment General Chamber of Commerce, said that the brands were selected based on the companies' performance on operation, management and brand improvement. Those selected brands not only have experiences in brand image improvement, maintenance and brand management, but also are leading brands in the industry. The selection would also consider the firms' international reputation, growth, brands value, flexibility to deal with the financial crisis, social responsibility and public awareness. Those listed will also be invited to attend the strategic cooperation meeting, summit, achievements showcase and award ceremony held by WFBA to improve their competiveness. The US has 130 companies on the list, Japan has 60 and Germany and France have 35 names each on the list. |
