China's foreign ministry spokeswoman Hua Chunying urged the U.S. to correct its mistake and drop the extradition request of Meng Wanzhou, chief financial officer of China's Huawei, on Tuesday. Her comment came after Canadian media said that the United States will proceed with the formal extradition of Meng from Canada, where she is currently on bail. The incident is an "abuse of extradition treaties between the U.S. and Canada," Hua said. Meng was arrested in Vancouver on December 1, 2018 at the request of U.S. authorities as part of an investigation into an alleged scheme to evade U.S. sanctions against Iran. |
