JINAN, East China, Oct. 26 -- Asian Champion Sun Haibo claimed the title of "the strongest man in China" as he won the gold medal in the men's weightlifting over 105kg division at the 11th Chinese National Games Monday. Sun, Jilin province representative, made an amazing lift in his second attempt, jerking 245kg and totaling 445kg, which was not a disappointing result, just two kilos short of the national record made by Han Wenliang in 2002. Denfending champion Dong Feng, 31, attempted to beat Sun with the same result by body weight advantage, but failed at last. Dong of Liaoning had to take the silver at 438kg and Sun's teammate Yu Mingqiu got the bronze at 427kg. However, Sun, Asian champion in 2007, still had to improve his performance in the future, because his result was 16 kilos short of the result of the Beijing Olympic Champion Matthias Steiner of Germany, the strongest man in the world. |
