BEIJING, Oct. 11 -- The sixth seed Svetlana Kuznetsova upset Agnieszka Radwanska to grab the second China Open title on her fourth appearance at China Open tournament finals on Sunday. Kuznetsova, the owner of eleven Tour titles, started the match by a break to take a 2-0 lead. Radwanska, who had ten career wins against Top-ten ranked players, tried to fight back by pulling the score back to 1-2. In the following games, Kuznetsova refused to allow any break. The 24-year-old Russian decided to focus on the baseline and delivered a stable performance. She broke twice to establish a 5-2 lead and seized the second of the two set points to end the first set 6-2. In the second set, Kuznetsova broke again to lead 2-0 again. She continued her masterful form by hitting a number of powerful attacks. Although Radwanska didn't drop any of her serve points in the rest part of this set, one break was enough for Kuznetsova to seal the victory 6-2, 6-4. Kuznetsova climbed as high as world number four by winning the tournament, and Radwanska stopped her 4-0 Tour finals winning streak since 2007. At the ceremony after the match, both players expressed their appreciation to China Open and people who supported her. |
