A statement issued by the French embassy in China said that a French national had been "violently" attacked with a knife in Shanghai on Wednesday. The statement added that the French embassy urged French nationals in China to be on alert. It said the embassy and consulates in China would keep in touch with the Chinese authorities to remind them that the security of French nationals in China is a priority. The incident occurred a few days after the killing of a Chinese national by police in Paris, which has sparked outrage among the ethnic Chinese community in the French capital.
