The heaviest worry weighing on Chinese minds is their financial situation, followed by their children's education and healthcare, a new report on the social mentality of Chinese people shows, chinanews.com reported on Monday.

A press conference to announce the Blue Book on Social Mentality: Chinese Social Psychology Research Report 2016, published by the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, was held in Beijing on Monday.

The report says that financial pressure in first-tier cities is higher than in smaller cities in terms of living costs, transportation, incomes and real estate prices.

While residents of fourth-tier cities suffer less financial pressure, they feel more stress related to their family and social interactions than their counterparts in bigger metropolises, according to the chinanews.com's report.

The poll found that family members are viewed as the most trustworthy, followed by close friends, classmates and teachers.

The occupations that are seen as the most trustworthy are teachers, followed by doctors, policemen and judges.

The report also looked at how people consume social media on Sina Weibo, showing that the attention span of netizens is usually between 24 to 72 hours.

According to the report, netizens mostly discuss and demand the government intervene in issues that endanger public safety, especially violent crime and food safety.

The report found that on average, people can be easily distracted by hot news, making some incidents go viral instantly.

The report consists of four sections discussing the feelings of various social groups and their life targets.

Chinanews.com did not report how many members of the public were involved in the survey or how the information in the report was collected.
