Visitors from developing countries are gaining interest in weapons meant to fight terrorism at the six-day China International Aviation and Aerospace Exhibition, or Airshow China 2016, in Zhuhai, South China's Guangdong Province.

On Thursday, China North Industries Group Corporation (Norinco), one of the biggest State-run military industrial enterprises in China, carried out a Ground Equipment Maneuver Demonstration.

Apart from the main battle tanks such as the VT2 and VT4, which are mainly geared for conventional warfare, Norinco also displayed its ground equipment for special missions, including counter-terrorism, hostage rescues and VIP protection.

Norinco held a demonstration on Thursday on VIP protection and eliminating terrorists which included four vehicles: the VN1 8x8 Wheeled Armored Vehicle (WAV), VN2C 6x6 Mine-Resistant WAV, VN4 4x4 WAV and VP11 4x4 Mine-Resistant Ambush-Protected Vehicle.

After a series of searching and attacking within a zone of complex geographic condition, the "VIP" has arrived the "safe zone" and the squad received warm applause from the audiences.

An anonymous Norinco employee told the Global Times on Thursday that in the first and second days of the air show, "many foreign military delegations came to watch the demonstration, mostly from the Middle East, Africa and Southeast Asia."

Kevin Cheng, the editor-in-chief of Taiwan-based military magazine Asia Defense Magazine, told the Global Times on Thursday that China's arms exports are competing with those of the US and Russia.

"We found out that many Chinese military equipment for export have adopted the US standard, and this gives Chinese products an advantage in the market. Clients from developing countries can purchase a vehicle from China as a platform, then buy weapons from the US or other NATO countries for use on this platform," Cheng said.
