A suicide bomber blew himself up inside a hospital in Iraq's northern city of Tikrit, hometown of the deposed ruler Saddam Hussein, on Friday night, leaving at least 17 people dead and dozens wounded, a local police source said. "We got the latest report that 17 killed and dozens wounded," the source told Xinhua on condition of anonymity. The explosion caused a fire and a blackout. Half an hour after the blast occurred, there was still no electricity in the hospital, the source said. Rumor said that another suicide bomber was in the hospital, waiting to cause a second explosion. The news cannot be immediately verified. Earlier in the day, a bomb targeting worshippers ripped through a mosque in Tikrit and killed 19 Iraqis including some high- ranking local officials after Friday prayers. |
