King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa of Bahrain expressed Saturday his kingdom's support to Syria's security, stability and the reforms led by President Bashar al- Assad, Syrian official SANA news agency reported. King Hamad expressed his stance via a verbal message conveyed by Bahraini Foreign Minister Sheikh Khalid bin Ahmed Al Khalifa during his meeting with al-Assad on Saturday. The meeting discussed the current situation in the region, especially in Bahrain and Syria, and the importance of continuing consultations between the two countries on the issues in the Arab and international arenas. Syria has been in unrest for more than seven weeks after the anti-government demonstrations broke up in the southern province of Daraa. The protests have spread to several other Syrian cities, leading to the death of dozens of protesters and policemen. The ruling Baath party of Syria, which ruled the country for decades, has announced a package of reforms, including the increase of salaries and release of political detainees. |
