French Foreign Minister Michele Alliot-Marie on Saturday called for the resumption of the stalled Palestinian-Israeli peace talks, stressing her country's support for the Mideast peace process. In a press conference along with her Palestinian counterpart Riyad al-Malki in the Jordanian capital of Amman Saturday, the French official said realizing peace in the Middle East is " indispensable" stressing the need to proceed with peacemaking efforts. "France is committed to three principles; which are the creation of a Palestinian state, guaranteeing the security of Israel and that Jerusalem is the capital for two states, and ensuring free access to holy places for all worshipers," she said in the press conference Saturday after her meeting with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas in Amman. Stressing that she urged the Israelis to lift the siege imposed on Gaza Strip, Alliot-Marie said France is ready to host a conference for donor countries for the Palestinian people. Al Malki said the meeting between Alliot-Marie and Abbas focused on developments in the region and means to revive the peace process and that the two sides see eye to eye on issues in the region. Abbas apologized for Alliot-Marie who was received in Gaza Strip by dozens of eggs and angry slogans during her visit to the coastal enclave on Friday, Al Malki said. The Palestinian minister said Abbas informed Alliot-Marie that the Palestinians are ready for resuming peace talks with Israel in line with clear references. Al Malki also said the Palestinians are looking forward to the meeting of the Quartet scheduled for next month in Munich, Germany. Jordan is the last stop of the French Foreign Minister's Mideast tour which also includes Israel, Palestine and Egypt. |
