Five Palestinian militants were killed on Saturday night in an Israeli airstrike that had directly targeted them in central of the Gaza Strip, medics and the Israeli Radio said. Witnesses said they heard a huge explosion south of the central Gaza Strip city of Deit el-Balah, and saw ambulances and rescue teams take the five bodies to a nearby hospital. The Israeli Radio quoted an Israeli army spokesman as saying that Israeli war jets struck a group of Palestinian militants trying to launch homemade rockets from the area at Israel, killing five of them. Earlier, Adham Abu Selmeya, spokesman of emergency services in the Hamas-run health ministry had told Xinhua that the circumstances of the blast and the identity of five killed were unknown, and the Hamas police has started an investigation into the blast. |
