LONDON, March 16 -- British police on Monday arrested four suspects being involved in violent clashes that erupted after last year's UEFA Cup final in Manchester. Police detained the suspects, who were aged 21, 24, 34 and 36 in the Glasgow area, and took them to Manchester for interrogation. Scottish fans battled with riot police after Rangers lost to Russian club Zenit St Petersburg in May 14 during the final. About 150,000 Rangers fans travelled down from Scotland for the match. One Russian fan was stabbed, 15 police officers were injured and more than 40 people arrested after street fighting broke out when a giant screen showing the match to thousands of ticketless fans in the city center broke down. An investigation into the rioting were carried out later. Officers have been sifting through hours of closed circuit TV footage to try and identify those suspected of being involved in the rioting. Hundreds of calls from the public were also received after posting closed-circuit TV photographs on its website of some people believed to have been involved in the disorder, according to local police. |
