A group of Taliban insurgents launched an attack on NATO bases in eastern Afghanistan 's Khost province early on Saturday, 11 attackers were killed and two soldiers sustained injuries, press department of NATO said. "A group of Taliban terrorists raided two bases of NATO-led troops in Khost province early Saturday," provincial police chief Abdul Hakim Ishaqzai told Xinhua. He added that the militants attacked NATO-led forces bases in Sahra Bagh and old airfield at 05:00 a.m. local time. The situation in Sahra Bagh base has been brought under control as all the attackers had been killed but gun battle is going on at the old airfield. Press department of NATO-led troops in southeast Afghanistan confirmed the attack, saying 25 insurgents targeted military bases by rockets and small arms early morning. During the clash 11 insurgents were killed and two soldiers sustained injuries, the press department emphasized. Meantime, a Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid claimed of responsibility and in talks with media via telephone from undisclosed location said 20 suicide bombers stormed NATO bases in Khost province this morning. Mujahid also claimed that the militants shot down a helicopter in the old airfield. |
